Hard Times
04:47
|
|||
Walking down that red brick road, well I made my way to town.
Stopped at the elementary school and I had a look around.
See my name written on the board, and I see yours next to mine,
and you know that I start thinking 'bout all those good times.
Beat it down to the corner shop, and I head down to the tracks.
Now I'm at the water's edge, and I'm walk into the past.
Here's where Ricky broke his nose, man here's where Nelson died,
and you know that I start thinking 'bout all those hard times.
It's okay to tell 'em all the way
We said we're gonna come to them with something to say.
I'll stand alone til I know that when I'm home I will stay
Walking down that red brick road to the house I knew was gone.
Some uncovered the memories, I guess that's where they belong.
Of all the shit that I've been through, I guess I'm doing fine
Now I wake up every morning staring into the most beautiful eyes,
and I tell them "son, there's no easy way of doing hard time"
I tell him "there's no easy way of doing hard time"

Family Tree
03:31
|

You're the last remaining leaf on an old oak tree, by the Conemaugh River at the end of winter.
You're fearful of where you'll land; be it water, or be it desert sand.
So where the wind blows, I must follow.
Out that door, in that breeze, I am free, and I can't see you anymore.
I can't see, even in
my periphery.
Black bird, black bird; you've got me treating my life absurd.
Ignorant of all the beauty yet to see.
Black bird, black bird; you've got me hanging on every word.
Ignorant of all the beauty yet to see..
That's just like me, out that door, where I can't see; I can't see you anymore. I can't see, even in
my periphery

Died at Five
05:06
|
|||
I died when I was five,
was born again the very next day.
Felt so lucky to be alive
with the knowledge of the final price we'd pay.
and in life, what you do, do out of love, not fear of present or God above.
Because nobody wants you to suffer in life, just give best you can, and never stop giving your best; contest to all the rest; your best.
If you've tried your very best
to rise above the rest
then throw your starfish one by one
back to the ocean in the sun.
if they say "can't save them all,"
it's true, but to enrich your life,
your best will do.
I died when I was five,
now I know what it is to be alive.

Madhouse
04:37
|
|||
It's finally over; when they call your name, don't you tell them anything.
The world's on fire, we're all broke down, so make your last words count.
Paycheck to paycheck, your life is a train wreck,
And all your dreams were wrong before.
Travelling back streets,
You can't get on your feet,
and the sound of the door
There's no way out of this madhouse,
Without giving up a little piece of your mind.
Stand back, rewind, it's almost show time.
No way we're ever leaving behind.
Wrote you a letter,
Said that I'd never
needed anybody the way that I needed you tonight.
I didn't send it,
I had to amend it.
I needed you yesterday, the same way that I do today.
Tomorrow's same, there's just no getting away.
There's no way out of this madhouse
without giving up a little piece of your mind.
Stand back,, rewind, it's almost show time.
No way we're ever leaving behind.
